How Your Donation Educates a Child in India

Every donation we receive at AFJS Trust has one purpose: keeping a child in school. Here is exactly what that looks like in practice. No vague promises, no abstract statistics. Just the mechanics of how your money moves, who it reaches, and what it changes.

The Problem We Solve In Bhavnagar's underprivileged communities, the barrier to education is almost always the same: unpaid school fees. Families want their children in school. They understand that education is the path out of poverty. But when the fees come due, and at St. Xavier's Primary School, Devbagh those annual fees are ₹19,400, many families simply cannot pay.

The result is predictable. The school sends a notice. The family scrambles. If nothing changes, the child is asked to leave. A boy who was doing well in maths. A girl who was drawing in the margins of every notebook she owned. Gone.

This is where AFJS Trust comes in.

What We Do: Step by Step When a child's school place is at risk, our process is direct and documented:

• A family or teacher alerts us to a child in crisis
• We verify the situation through our community contacts and a direct conversation with the family
• We raise a donation cheque payable to St. Xavier's Primary School, in the child's name
• The cheque is delivered to the school and a stamped fee receipt is issued
• We photograph the receipt and send it to the sponsoring donor
• The child's enrolment is confirmed for the full academic year
• We begin tracking attendance and progress

There is no cash at any point in this chain. The money goes from the donor's account to the school, with receipts at every step.

What ₹25,000 Covers ₹25,000 covers one child's full year of school fees at St. Xavier's Primary School, Devbagh, Bhavnagar, paid directly to the school in the child's name.

What happened next is why we do this. With her school place secure, something in Noor shifted. She stopped coming to class anxious and started coming to class focused. She entered the school's Rangoli competition and won second place. Her art teacher says she is one of the most gifted students she has taught.

Noor wants to be an artist. She is still in school. That is because someone donated.

What Smaller Donations Do Not everyone can commit ₹25,000, and that is completely fine. Smaller donations go toward our nutrition drives and broader welfare programmes that support the communities we serve:

• ₹500 funds hot meals for children at our nutrition drives
• ₹1,000 contributes toward a month of nutrition support for our programme children
• ₹5,000 goes toward our Food & Nutrition Drive, feeding 80+ families per session
• ₹10,000 and above can be pooled with other contributions toward a child's school fees

Every amount matters. We are a lean organisation with zero advertising spend and no institutional overheads. What comes in goes out to children.

Transparency Is Non-Negotiable We document everything. Every child has a file: fee receipts, school confirmation letters, attendance records. Every nutrition drive has photographs. Every donor receives updates.

We are a small organisation, and that is our advantage. We cannot hide behind corporate structure or bureaucratic distance. John lives in Bhavnagar. He knows these children by name. He knows their teachers. He is accountable in a way that large organisations are not, because he walks past these schools every day.
