What Volunteering at AFJS Trust Looks Like, and Why It Will Change You

People come to volunteer at AFJS Trust expecting to give something. They almost always leave feeling like they received far more than they offered.

What Our Volunteers Do Volunteers are the heartbeat of AFJS Trust. Without them, we simply cannot function. What does volunteering look like in practice?

• After-School Tutoring: Volunteers sit with children for 90 minutes, 3 days a week, helping them with reading, writing, mathematics, and general knowledge. No teaching degree required. Patience, warmth, and consistency are all you need.

• Nutrition Drive Support: On nutrition drive days (we run 4+ per month), volunteers help prepare meals, serve food, maintain records, and interact with families. It is physically demanding and deeply rewarding.

• Community Outreach: Volunteers help identify families who may benefit from our programs, visiting homes, building trust, and connecting people with support.

• Administrative Support: Behind every successful nutrition drive and enrollment campaign is a mountain of coordination. Volunteers help with record-keeping, social media, grant writing, and communications.
